San Jose, CA -- A study conducted by the Center for Relationship Affairs found that Latino men between the ages of 19-30 are 10 times more likely than their white counterparts to get stabbed by their female partners.
The study, which was published in Hispanic Magazine this month, focused on hospitalization rates for stab victims across the country from 2000 to 2011 and found that on average, 60 percent of Latinos who were hospitalized for stab wounds had been stabbed by an angry girlfriend or wife.
Contrary to initial theories, the woman's background did not seem to play a factor. Out of all the cases studied, Latino men had been stabbed at consistent rates despite their female partners' race, ethnicity, or upbringing.
Compared to a 6 percent rate for white men ages 19-30, the findings are disproportionately high for Latinos. As a result, concerns have been raised throughout Latino communities as to why Latino men get stabbed by women so frequently.
One possible explanation, according to the Center for Relationship Affairs, is offered by the personal testimonies of the victims themselves. Of all the cases reviewed, the most common reason that a hospitalized Latino gave as to why he felt his woman had stabbed him was, "Por andar de Cabron".
