Inglewood, CA -- Eager to set off fireworks in the early hours of July 4, a Hispanic man from Inglewood, CA inadvertently blew up a firework that had the shape of the Virgen de Guadalupe.
Joel Barajas, who began lighting fireworks with his son at 12:01am on July 4, had already ignited the firework when he noticed that it bore a striking resemblance to the holy figure. "When I realized what it was, I ran to stop it, but it was too late", said Barajas.
The breathtaking firework explosion, captured in a photo by the man's son, also showed an extraordinary resemblance to the Virgen de Guadalupe, which sent the Inglewood resident into sheer panic.
"When I saw the miraculous scene, I completely freaked out", stated Barajas. "I immediately went to see my priest to ask forgiveness for blowing up the Virgen de Guadalupe, but instead of making me feel better, he chided my stupidity and said the pope was the only one that could forgive such carelessness. In the meantime, he instructed me to say '100 Ave Marias' each day - until I hear back from the pope".
A copy of the image has been reportedly sent to the pope, who will interpret its meaning and determine if there are any repercussions for blowing up the holy firework.
