Los Angeles, CA -- NBC wants Mexicans to know that the decision to let Donald Trump host SNL was not personal. On the contrary, according NBC president Steve Burke, anyone offended by Trump's appearance should understand that it was a business decision driven by the need to produce ratings and does not reflect the type of personal relationship that NBC wants to build with the Mexican community.
To prove this, and to show the entire Hispanic community that NBC takes cultural sensitivity seriously, SNL creator and producer Lorne Michaels announced that Mexican Actor Antonio Banderas has been asked to host the show in 2016.
The details are still being hashed out, but so far it has been announced that SNL wants to have Antonio Banderas' appearance coincide with Mexican Independence Day on Cinco de Mayo.
The goal is to show Mexicans that while their calls to cancel Donald Trump's appearance may have fallen on deaf ears, their other concerns that are less likely to hurt or improve ratings are being taken seriously, such as their criticism of the lack of Mexican American guests on SNL.
"The idea is to have a Mexican themed Saturday Night Live show that highlights the beauty and contributions of Mexican culture, while at the same time reaffirming NBC's commitment to the Hispanic community", stated Mr. Michaels. "We are in the process of reaching out to Mexican female singer Jennifer Lopez and Mexican hip-hop artist Daddy Yankee to have them alongside Antonio Banderas in a night that Mexicans will be talking about for years "
In addition, NBC has revealed that authentic Mexican food will be served to the staff before and after the SNL show, courtesy of Mexico's finest, Taco Bell.
No information has been received on whether or not Antonio Banderas has accepted the offer to represent millions of Mexicans on Saturday Night Live. If he turns down the offer, NBC says that a possible replacement is Mexican Singer Marc Anthony (No, unfortunately not El Buki).
